Stone Blind State – Electric Lady (2026)
Technically formed just before the Covid-19 pandemic hit the world, Stone Blind State introduced themselves with the three-track 2019 EP Alive. A brash brush of 90s-esque hard rock; then, the hiatus hit. Stumped by the pandemic and line-up changes, Stone Blind State re-emerged in 2025 with the single, ‘There She Goes’. Featuring members Michael McDonagh and Martin Furlong, the Irish band breathed life into songs that might have just landed up on McDonagh’s bookcase or in some old shoebox somewhere. Today, we take a look and listen to their most recent release, ‘Electric Lady’.
The band’s first step into 2026, Stone Blind State shifts from the brooding mood of ‘There She Goes’ to an urgent rush of classic rock in ‘Electric Lady’. Aptly named, listening to the new track is like touching a live wire, feeling that shot of electricity up your arm, through your body, and leaving you reeling. This is, of course, a metaphor; don’t go touching live wires, that stuff can kill you!
Produced by Brendan Carthy of Cry Before Dawn, the single is just under three minutes of raw power, aggression, and rambunctious madness with a head-spinning twist and spine-chilling rage. With Carthy’s pounding drums and McDonagh’s blistering guitars, ‘Electric Lady’ has the power of a live band performing at full throttle to leave you in a state of awe. Add Furlong’s rich vocals, not necessarily frenzied but no walk in the park, and you have a full-bodied rock track to liven any day.
The precursor to Stone Blind State’s upcoming album, ‘Electric Lady’ is a great introduction to the band. I am eager to hear more, but until the album drops in late February, I’m content with the current discography.
