Sweet Mess – Violate The Night (2026)

A group of long-time friends joining forces as a band, creating music for the masses and having a lot of fun while doing it – well, that’s Sweet Mess in a sentence. Primarily a tribute band celebrating female rock legends like Joan Jett, Pat Benatar, Blondie and many others, the US-based foursome has earned a strong following in the Phoenix music scene. However, desirous to branch out with original sounds, Sylvie (lead vocals), Fer Lopez (lead guitar), Rob Watson (bass guitar) and Michael Hayes (drums) find themselves inspired by artists like Halestorm, Paramore and The Pretty Reckless, adding a modern rock flair to the old-school tunes. This is our introduction to Sweet Mess, so join us as we dive into their most recent release, ‘Violate The Night’.

Following their debut single, ‘Midnight Knows My Name’, ‘Violate The Night’ is a heavier, more pounding blast of hard rock music. Recorded with Larry Elyea at Phoenix’s Mind’s Eye Studio, the track is a bold concoction of crashing drums, a bold bass, scorching guitar, and Sylvie’s rich, sweet vocals. Imagine a vile of silvery liquid twirling about, slicked with bright reds, greens, blues and gold – this is ‘Violate The Night’.

While the track has a solid, flowing rock sound, it is also a rollercoaster of emotions set to music. The drums rise and fall in their pounding groove, while the guitar kicks up and soars, and the bass keeps the pace with a pulsating beat. Every chord, every note, everything oozes the brazen message of “violating the night”. Sweet Mess explain:

“This song has some personal meaning to it, but in the bigger scheme of things, everyone wants to or has violated the night in their own way. Sex, drugs, alcohol, rock and roll, you name it!”

One of three songs recorded in a single day, ‘Violate The Night’ offers a sophisticated elegance, but a dripping veil of innocent rambunctiousness brings the raw kick to a fiery single. Highly recommended!
