The Domi – Shining Far Away (2025)
Should you take a fancy to the likes of Tame Impala, The Strokes and Metronomy, the chances are you’ll enjoy the offerings of singer-songwriter The Domi. The solo project of musician and producer Dominique Lemaire, The Domi binds light, ethereal sounds and emotionally-driven lyrics brimming with authenticity, innovation and originality. Inspired by life in all its grit and glory, the France-based artist aims to resonate with audiences with relatable themes, engaging messages, and a comforting hand of friendship in dark days. The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘Shining Far Away’.
Following his well-received singles ‘Days of Wonder’ and ‘Above The Noise’, ‘Shining Far Away’ leans toward vintage indie-pop sounds, but with an eclectic tinge of jangle-pop, funk, and soul threaded through the melody. Self-recorded and produced at The Domi’s home studio, a blend of bold beats, funky guitars, and shimmering synths binds in a groovy, rhythmic, flowing wave of sound. Yet, while the song could easily result from an impromptu burst of creativity, ‘Shining Far Away’ lingers with structural integrity, anchoring a person in the production duality.
Similar to ‘Above The Noise’, ‘Shining Far Away’ has a leaning toward 80s pop sounds – that is where the similarity ends. While the former track is somewhat hazy and more ethereal, ‘Shining Far Away’ pulls you from the ether, plonking you on the ground surrounded by kaleidoscopic joy and optimism. Add The Domi’s rich vocals, and you feel as if you are dancing with an old friend to a groovy tune while wearing bell-bottom jeans and a tie-dye top (with the peace sign on, of course).
Melodically, ‘Shining Far Away’ shines with youthful innocence and hopeful emotions, all of which are beautifully captured in the empowering lyricism. The Domi explains:
