The Pulltops – You Tripped Me Up (2025)

Travelling through various realms of rock, US-based duo The Pulltops daub their singles with glimmers of indie-rock, alternative rock, classic rock, power-pop, and sometimes some folk-rock. While each track alludes to a rock-oriented sheen, there is something obscure in the track that offers a unique, eclectic branch of boundary-breaking music. We’ve kept our eyes and ears on guitarist Tom Crowell and drummer Mark Pierret for about three years now, and today we take a look at their most recent single, ‘You Tripped Me Up’.

Following the well-received EP Fault Lines, which happens to include ‘You Tripped Me Up’ on the track list, The Pulltops continue their saunter through 2025 with this new song. Showcasing diversity and versatility as musicians, ‘You Tripped Me Up’ retains the anthemic nature of ‘Carry On’ and ‘Mission Control’; however, its way of lifting your soul seems to alter. It’s difficult to explain, but as ‘Carry On’ was a drag from the skies, ‘You Tripped Me Up’ is a push from the ground, propelling you into a feeling of empowerment and optimism.

Binding crashing drums with soaring guitars, ‘You Tripped Me Up’ is not a whirlpool of sound; in fact, it’s not even a twirling puddle of music. No, it’s like that song you hear when you raise your eyes from the drab dreariness and take hold of the kind stranger’s helpful hand – the stranger being The Pulltops. Blending the melodic with the conceptual, the talented pair use music as a soundtrack to resilience, strength and growth. The pair explain:

“With a gritty pulse and soaring defiance, ‘You Tripped Me Up’ dives headfirst into the fallout of broken trust… the moment where frustration turns into clarity – and the climb back up begins. It’s a cathartic anthem for anyone who’s stumbled, stood back up, and decided they’re done looking back.”
