The Storm Windows – More Lucky (2025)

Describing their music as “… a survey of the American landscape, like a cross-country adventure (including up through Canada) in a VW bus”, The Storm Windows are a new brand of Americana. Traipsing the realms of folk, rock, and even jazz-laced fields, the veteran musicians sing with originality about weathering a few storms yet standing tall and smiling with a song of hope, optimism and passion in their hearts. Drawing together the natural talent of Rob Mathews (guitar and vocals), Don Mathews (upright bass and vocals), and Erik Anderson (drums), the US-based trio celebrates life with innovation, originality, and intimacy. The latest addition to their discography is the single, ‘More Lucky’.

The title track off their well-received EP More Lucky, The Storm Windows offers a simplistic, barebones wave of chilled-out, cooled-down folk in ‘More Lucky’. Interestingly, while the song leans toward the sparse acoustic sound, one that calms your soul and keeps you smiling, ‘More Lucky’ has a flutter of twinkling multi-coloured fairy dust laced in Dima Faustov’s horns. The mellifluous blend of soaring guitars, the upright bass, and steady drums is a harmonic symphony showcasing the musicians’ skills, their camaraderie, and the deep-seated belief in taking things as they come.

The melody itself is the anthem of a laid-back summer afternoon as you swing in your hammock, enjoy a calming moment, and celebrate the bliss of a peaceful day. Add Rob Mathews’ vocals, and you have that whisper on the breeze lifting your heart while also being an anchor in the blissful wave of sound.

So, what is my opinion of The Storm Windows and ‘More Lucky’? A rhythmic blast of pure contentment brimming with tranquillity in a folk-infused breath of fresh air. My day is that much better and more lucky with The Storm Windows.
