The Trusted – Yellowhammer (2025)
Sauntering through various realms of musical styles, The Trusted gathers pieces of indie-rock, indie-pop, alternative rock, and even a twig of punk here and there, then ties them all together in a distinctive breed of sound. If you aren’t certain who The Trusted are, then you haven’t been paying attention to one of the most intriguing bands in the UK music scene. From confident performances across their native UK, to winning hearts on European tours, taking the stage at notable festivals, rave reviews on international media, and then streaming into our ears with a subdued ferocity. Bombastic and rambunctious, but with a soothing sense of calm and contentment, The Trusted make a noise, and you can’t help but listen. The latest addition to their discography is the single ‘Yellowhammer’.
Following the critically acclaimed album Iridescence – a release that highlights their versatility as a band – ‘Yellowhammer’ seemingly shifts from the indie-driven sound often expected from The Trusted, yet retains a distinctive The Trusted feel within its heavier, harder, darker style.
Produced with Rees Broomfield, ‘Yellowhammer’ is a shimmering concoction of crashing drums, dynamic bass, and soaring guitars, hitting you in the gut with full force. For me, however, it is not the raging rush of rock to bowl me over; it is the intricate arrangement of instruments offering both rage and a twinkling whisper of… I’m not sure, a sense of glittering beats perfectly aligned with the theme of living in the chaos of this digital era. The band explains:
“…it’s a big, emotional track about disconnection, the madness of the online world, and trying to find something real in all the noise. It builds, it breaks, it bursts… If you’ve ever felt a bit lost or out of step with the world, this one’s for you.”
For me, The Trusted’s music is always sophisticated, elegant and well-polished, but then there is vulnerability, fragility, and a reach into the gritty side of reality, whether it be in the melody or the lyricism. It’s a bad pun, but you can always trust The Trusted to swagger across the stage with something new, original, and gobsmackingly good.
