Tiphanie Doucet – Une Love Song (2022)

With her first bilingual single ‘Une Love Song’, French singer-songwriter and instrumentalist, Tiphanie Doucet, is writing a letter to a future love. A feel-good single, it taps into the concept of her upcoming album which is packed with letters to the people who are important in her life, or potentially will be. Hitting out with a new lo-fi electronic tone, she sonically moves away from the style of her previous releases for something that really stands out.

In this track, she pairs her sweet vocals with some lo-fi beats, adding in a Celtic harp to bring a unique depth to the single. After graduating from the renowned Ballet Conservatory in Paris, Doucet started her career as a talented actress and dancer. She has starred in French films and TV shows and toured as a backup dancer before focusing on her music which has seen her appear on the Canadian Voice and gain a spot on Rolling Stone, France’s editorial playlist.

‘Une Love Song’ brings the first touches of lo-fi electronics through the shimmer of the opening. The beats shuffle, yet propel, you into the softness of the higher tones. It is a wonderful mixture of tones that have you lightly bopping to the music while floating on the higher levels. The combination of gentleness and a forward momentum sonically captures the love and affection of the track, while giving a feeling that this is still coming. The cascade of glitter tones later in the single brings a new texture that lifts you higher and fills your chest with bubbling happy energy. Overall, the melody is rather chilled and laid back, allowing you to sit back and soak up the good emotions infused into the bi-lingual vocal performance.

Doucet’s vocals are like a sweet taste of nectar that slowly bursts with fantastic flavour through the build-up of the opening verse. When her voice enters, it is soft like a hint of sweet flowery scent carried on the wind, enticing you to travel further. The opening verse is French and floats into the English chorus which has a blissful sighing quality. Throughout the single, her performance brings a warm sunny vibe that effortlessly leaves you feeling happier and lighter for hearing it. The flow between the languages is wonderful and seamless, enhancing the overall feeling of the track. With the chorus being in English, it makes it easier for it to get stuck in your head and it definitely will.
