Tom Minor – Change It! (2025)

From the avant-garde single ‘Expanding Universe’ to the indie-rock ‘Next Stop Brixton’ and indie-pop ‘Bring Back The Good Ol’ Boys’ – all entwined with a flavour of Britpop – Tom Minor sails along a shimmering sonic sea with a genre-twirling song in his heart. Just as he delves into a variety of sounds, Minor is unafraid to navigate the different challenges, tragedies and triumphs of reality, telling tales of life in his melodies. The most recent release to his discography is the single, ‘Change It!’.

Following his profound but cheerily whimsical single ‘Bring Back The Good Ol’ Boys’, ‘Change It!’ showcases a harder-hitting side of Minor’s musical personality. Produced with long-time collaborator Teaboy Palmer, the track is a quick thrust back to the 1970s and 1980s Britpop meets power-pop scene. The bounciness of the Beatles exists with their feel-good flair; however, just as much as the toe-tapping jangle of the Beatles whispers below, Minor adds a heavier, grittier, almost knee-skinning vibe. Joined by guitarist Johnny Dalston, the pounding drums back a scorching guitar with powerful, flaring riffs sliding along the rhythmic layers.

One aspect I enjoy about Tom Minor is his unique vocals. With a strong British inflexion, boasting a London accent, ‘Change It!’ appears more intimate, individual, and as if you are having a conversation with a mate over a pint instead of listening to someone singing out of your speakers. He really draws you in to enjoy the story, not leaving you to flounder in a sonic pool.

As I mentioned, Tom Minor looks at everything in life and pours the ideas into music; ‘Change It!’ is the perfect capturing of the New Year spirit. A time for resolutions – some which are broken a few hours after the clock strikes midnight – ‘Change It!’ is a “…call-to-arms for anyone feeling their full potential is yet to be realised, and holding onto the hope there might just be a future ahead after all. The gloves are off, the guards are down, and the stop gates pulled open once and for all.” With the promise of a new album this year, I am excited to hear what else Minor has in store.
