Tom Minor – The Loneliest Person On Earth (2025)
Have you ever felt lonely? It happens to the best and worst of us; it’s a common feeling that can strike whenever really. You might feel lonely because of a lack of companionship – romantic or otherwise. You might feel lonely because you feel you’re the only one who happens to understand what’s going on. You might feel lonely because… well, just because you’re a bit sad that day. Whatever the cause, loneliness and isolation are normal, albeit one of those “oh, this sucks” feelings. Tom Minor captures not only these emotions but what we happen to do when lonely (beyond crying into a pillow). Come with me as we take a gander at his single, ‘The Loneliest Person On Earth’.
“Have you ever experienced a domestic situation with someone who means the world to you, when everything seems to fall apart at that very moment, you end up speaking your mind and rush into decisions you may live to regret? Well, welcome to the club.” – Tom Minor on ‘The Loneliest Person On Earth’
Following his well-received EP, The Manic Phase, UK-based Minor joins long-time collaborator and producer Teaboy Palmer to create a song that’s not quite indie-rock, folk-pop, or Britpop, but something teetering between. Combining a strong acoustic piano with bold drums, a rhythmic guitar, and a tambourine keeping time in the background, ‘The Loneliest Person On Earth’ kicks with remnants of the Beatles and The Monkees.
Toe-tapping and head-bopping, ‘The Loneliest Person On Earth’ has a degree of happiness in its overall melody; however, a juxtaposition between tone and theme is evident. Bouncy, upbeat, and a light-hearted melody, ‘The Loneliest Person On Earth’ appears fun and sincere, but the bittersweetness of broken romance and the “whirlwinds of modern life” come through in the lyricism. Moreover, Minor’s blunt vocals carry a sense of, well, loneliness.
Sincere and sentimental, but sad and “oh, don’t feel that way”, ‘The Loneliest Person On Earth’ can both lift your spirits and dampen your joy (in the best way possible). Tom Minor might be singing about the loneliest person on Earth, but with this track, he brings us all together to sing along in a great chorus.
