Track of the Day: Ashot Danielyan – On The Station (2025)

In some cases, words and vocal execution can be infectious – infectious enough to make a song stick in your brain. Yet, in other cases, it is the melody that keeps you humming, and instrumentals prove you don’t necessarily need any words to win a heart or become unforgettable. For over a decade, almost 14 years according to Spotify, musician Ashot Danielyan has drifted across the realms of classical, experimental and new age ambience with a delicate flick that will stick. Join us as we delve into his final release of 2025, ‘On The Station’.

Across his discography, this Russian artist has taken you from the giddy highs of bold beats to the swooning rush of an orchestra; ‘On The Station’ is a piano solo weaving its way around your heart with a modern classical styling. Simplistic, harmonious, and easy on the ears, the track offers one a sense of soothing, contentment, and a deep, refreshing breath of calm. Each note twinkles and caresses with elegance, making the track… well, just hypnotic tranquillity. Yet, amidst the simplicity, there is an odd complexity.

It’s not one to perplex, but rather an intricate entwinement of sentiments. Instead of a stark, barebones sensation that speaks honestly and without qualms, ‘On The Station’ inserts poignant melancholy and nostalgia. The wistful notes are run across with a tone that “…evokes the passing of time and fleeting moments between departures and returns…” – a flighty feeling lingering on reflection and profound contemplation.

All people interpret melodies in different ways, and ‘On The Station’ could represent the shining smiles of children dancing about a maypole, or it could represent the knowing smile of an older adult watching those kids dancing. What I do know is that Danielyan uses his breath-taking skills as a pianist to embrace you, delicately touch your hand, and embrace you with the whimsical sound. Sometimes we all need to step back and enjoy the moment; ‘On The Station’ gives you that moment.
