Track of the Day: Eeade – When She Fades Away (2025)
With a passion for storytelling and a penchant for evocative melodies, singer-songwriter Eeade takes us on dramatic journeys in each song. Hailing from the Basque Country, Spain, the now UK-based musician is quickly emerging as one of the more eclectic artists in the Leeds underground scene. A queer artist, Eeade does not adhere to conventional or traditional styles or attitudes, leading to a highly creative sound that unmistakably leaves lasting impressions. Join us as we delve into the world of Eeade with her single ‘When She Fades Away’.
Following her singles ‘They Were Only Bodies’ and ‘Song for the End of Humanity’, ‘When She Fades Away’ falls in line with the eeriness of Eeade’s, what may become, signature sound. Produced by Robert David Burton, listening to ‘When She Fades Away’ is like walking through a foggy sonic forest; each step tremulous and brimming with heart-pounding vulnerability. The weave of piano, guitar and percussion creeps along the hidden path, while a whiff of strings peeks in the background with a sincere, albeit haunting, sincerity.
Melodically, ‘When She Fades Away’ glitters with an odd light that is both shimmeringly bright and treacherously veiled. For me, there is a dark-pop vibe in the track, but it is not the melody that enchants – it is Eeade’s obscure vocals. Nodding her hat to the Dresden Dolls, Eeade offers a likeness to the off-kilter depth of Amanda Palmer. Moreover, just as the similarity to Palmer is heard, the lyricism and concept of ‘When She Fades Away’ keep to the weighty tragedy of the Dresden Dolls. She explains:
“’When She Fades Away’ explores obsession and control… On the surface, the track unfolds like a dark fairytale, telling the tale of a man who becomes infatuated with a woman and wants to keep her for himself… once you dig a little deeper, it becomes clear what the song is really about: abuse…”
In addition to the single, Eeade released an official music video for ‘When She Fades Away’. You can view the video below and/or on Eeade’s YouTube channel.
