Track of the Day: Frank Joshua – Days Like These (2025)

A couple of months ago, singer-songwriter Frank Joshua graced our pages with what is now one of my most recommended songs, ‘Melanie Klein’. In the innovative single, Joshua showcases his musical versatility with an obscure meeting of soft rock and folk; however, he is no one-trick pony. With ‘Fertile Mind’s alternative rock meets folk and the bluesy tone of ‘Walls’, Frank Joshua is as eclectic and intriguing as they come. The latest addition to his discography is the single, ‘Days Like These’.

Following the well-received single ‘Melanie Klein’, Joshua picks up the pace with ‘Days Like These’. While his previous song was a heart-wrenching ballad that left you gasping for breath (in a good way), ‘Days Like These’ is more upbeat, optimistic, and heart-warming with its bouncy folk-inspired flair.

Produced with Tony White, the single is a rich concoction of guitars, drums, and percussion, all wrapped in a sophisticated sonic wrapper. Yet, as much as White waves his magic production wand, offering maturity and polish to ‘Days Like These’, there is a ruggedness and rawness to the tune. I really don’t know why, but I hear a tint of South African folk ala Johnny Clegg peeping from the background; odd and quite calming. The thing is, while the nostalgic whisper of SA exists, ‘Days Like These’ can sit comfortably among Western artists like Peter Gabriel and James Blake.

Melodically, ‘Days Like These’ is a song to stick in your head with its flowing tune and Joshua’s rich, warm vocals settling comfortably in your brain and heart. Lyrically, the song is weighty and adds a degree of depth. Joshua explains: ‘Days Like These’ is a shimmering ode to the magic of fleeting moments – those rare times when life briefly aligns and everything feels possible… [the] intimate lyrics explore transformation, presence and self-worth…”

So, does ‘Days Like These’ top ‘Melanie Klein’? Perhaps, but considering the difference in their styles, it’s impossible to choose. I am eager to hear more from Joshua; who knows, the next song may be even more enjoyable than this one.
