Track of the Day: Y!KES – ‘Just Me’
Y!KES are a rock band from Birmingham, UK, and they’re back with their new single ‘Just Me’ featuring 2000’s legend Geoff Rickly from the emo band Thursday. Y!KES seem to have really taken off this year and are very popular within the rock community. Discovered Magazine stated, “They’re already showing potential to be one of the biggest rising stars of the 2020s. Y!KES are ready to dominate online and in the charts; around the UK and far far beyond.”
Their track ‘Just Me’ kicks off with roaring vocals and both Oli Long’s and Geoff Rickly’s voices blend well together. The song is very melodic and catchy, the guitar riffs soar throughout the track and there is a great drumbeat that’s very captivating. The bassline is very strong and heavy. Vocalist Oli Long sings about how he feels like he’s a freak but it’s just him. He uses the music to explain why he feels this and mentions practising what you preach. The lyrics are very interesting, captivating and really makes you listen as you get pulled into the story behind the song.
