Vincent J. Rigney – I Can’t Stand By You (2025)
With an eagerness to celebrate life in all its tragedy and triumph, singer-songwriter Vincent J. Rigney takes intriguing life stories and pours all the emotion into moving melodies. With features in international media, airtime on global radio stations, collaborations with notable industry professionals, and a confident stage presence that can captivate audiences without any trouble, Rigney is a force to be reckoned with. The latest addition to his discography is the single, ‘I Can’t Stand By You’.
Following his well-received singles ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll King’ and ‘Ghosting’, the self-recorded and produced ‘I Can’t Stand By You’ takes us on a journey through old-school rock – think the riffs and roars of the Elvis era of rock and roll. Simplistic in a way, the single strips back with a barebones rush of drums, guitar, and Rigney’s vocals. Yet, at the same time, there is the multi-coloured fun of toe-tapping, danceable, sing-along infectiousness oozing from the 50s and 60s.
One aspect I enjoy about Vincent J. Rigney’s music is how it cuts to the core with its message and sound. A conversation with an old friend, or a look into a personal diary, ‘I Can’t Stand By You’ is raw emotion wrapped in an intimate sonic wrapper. The not-quite-spoken word, but not-quite-singing vocals insert an extra hint of intimacy because of its starkness; it’s like a “this is the situation, take it or leave it” attitude and sentimentality.
At the moment, my favourite track by Rigney remains ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll King’; however, ‘I Can’t Stand By You’ exudes the rock and roll high bound by personal narratives as it looks at a relationship. It’s not a song about being in love or leaving a toxic relationship (not really), it’s more Rigney saying, “Well, that’s it, you need to go because this isn’t working”, and I’m sure we can all appreciate the honesty. I cannot wait for his upcoming EP, Rocky Road, and what it has to offer.
