wsemsz – Midnight Fire (2025)

The brainchild of musician Adder Merto, wsemsz is a project that aims to bring a conceptual approach to songwriting and production with alternative sound; to discover how music “…emerges intuitively… where melodies feel uncovered rather than written… how sound interacts with perception, emotion, and inner states, sitting somewhere between introspection, technology, and raw expression.” Hailing from Poland, wsemsz has described his work as “…fragments of the world’s hidden structure translated into sound…”, and he does so unapologetically with a blend of metal, hard rock and alternative rock. Join us as we delve into his single, ‘Midnight Fire’.

Using an eclectic approach to production and arrangement, wsemsz embraces current Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology for music arrangement, yet retains the raw human essence in his original lyricism. Using a combination of DAW production with AI processing, this innovative musician glimpses at sonic depth while offering insight and exploration of the future of music production.

Self-produced, because you do need a human brain to initiate and direct AI, ‘Midnight Fire’ wanders through the heavy realms of hard rock. One might consider flecks of old-school 90s/2000s rock bands like Three Days Grace, Breaking Benjamin and Finger Eleven in the melody. With the crashing drums, bold bass, scorching guitars, ‘Midnight Fire’ is one of those songs you play air guitar to and scream along with its soul-stirring, breath-taking, skin-tingling raw emotion. It’s odd how something artificial can produce a sound so entirely human in its brashness, abruptness and heart.

Warm and, well, not honey-soaked but drenched in something alluring to make you feel connected, the rich vocals executing powerful lyricism is what ups that ante. Unpicking the vulnerability, fragility and tension after an inner conflict, ‘Midnight Fire’ captures the uglier side of letting go. wsemsz explains:

“It comes from the same album as ‘Renounce’ and expands on its emotional and sonic universe. While ‘Renounce’ focuses on inner conflict and the act of letting go, ‘Midnight Fire’ captures what remains afterwards – the quiet tension, the unresolved heat, the feelings that continue to smoulder beneath the surface… ‘Midnight Fire’… is designed for listeners drawn to reflective, melancholic, alternative music.”
