zukrassverliebt – Way Too Hot (2025)

For more creativity, compassion and motivation in your life, indie-pop duo zukrassverliebt eagerly explores human connection in their music. The brainchild of father-son duo Manuel and Michael Mentz, the German-based band began as a tool for finding balance between emotional solace and life stressors during the pandemic; now, they are turning heads with this balancing, yet binding, exposition of humanity. We first came across zukrassverliebt last year with their single, ‘Rosarot’. Today, we take a look and listen to their most recent release, ‘Way Too Hot’.

The English version of their single ‘Viel zu heiß’, ‘Way Too Hot’ is a bold pop song capturing the jangle-pop tones of the Beatles and Beach Boys, while kicking the melody with the contemporary edginess of Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez.  While this song is a playful, infectious tune ready for dance floors, there is an odd tinge of soulful Caribbean vibes floating in the guitars and drums. It’s bursting with the sugary sweetness of a piece of sonic candy, but stills the explosion with veiled folk-pop beats, bringing languid tranquillity to the brash rush of pop.

Self-produced by Manuel and Michael Mentz, ‘Way Too Hot’ is light-hearted, fun, and stirs those happy emotions we feel when looking at the bright side of life. In its chilled-out nature, ‘Way Too Hot’ is the perfect song to calm your nerves while driving home after a stressful day. It’s the ideal track to blast on summer road trips and when hanging out around the pool. It’s a song to wriggle into your head, get lost in your brain, and sort of stick there so you don’t even notice you’ve been humming and singing while cooking your food.

Yet, as much as there is soothing and innocent playfulness in its humour, there is a weighty message within the heartfelt whimsy. zukrassverliebt explain:

“’Viel zu heiß’ humorously and playfully describes the attraction to someone who is simply too hot to be true. At the same time, the heatwave metaphors remind us that, despite all the conflicts in the world, we still share a unique common topic…”
