This experimental rock project has taken the inherent risks and raw feeling of street racing along Detroit’s Woodward Avenue and moulded it into an adrenaline-fueled rush. Through each aspect of the track, 800CC builds up the story and has you feeling the pulse of every moment of the race from the first roaring engine to the screech of brakes.
The rush of emotions that fill you as you listen to this release is a continuation of the ethos of this musical project. The latest musical project from Kevin Kline, it looks to explore moods, effects, textures and feelings through the soundscape. Pushing creative boundaries not only in guitar-based sound, but in the creative process, this project is sure to have us diving headfirst into much more in the future.
The gentle pulses of the opening have a slightly avant-garde edge to them, leading you into a more psychedelic line that wobbles across your senses. The world that is built through the opening is released in a smooth sweep of sound that is like a rush of speed. Through the movement of the melody, you are transported to the speed of a racing car and the whip of the wind. There is a soaring feeling to the music as the vocals enter and take you into an almost out-of-body experience as you rise above everything.
The explosion of lights, sounds and feeling is actually rather gentle but eclipses everything else in your brain. The only thing that is able to break through is the vocals that drop you into the feeling and story of street racing. Through the lyrics, you are shifted into the driver’s seat and the elation that comes with the freedom of speeding down a road without much care. These feelings are enhanced by the styling of the vocals.
It is almost like the vocals are detached from the world and reaching out to you from a nebulous place that can only be reached through the rush of emotions. Every aspect of the track comes together for an otherworldly experience where you are far from your usual reality. The addition of the rather interesting ending of the track just ties everything off perfectly.
