Tritonic – Alexamenos! (2025)

Standing with one foot in the pool of hardcore genres, and the other foot placed in a melodic realm of lighter styles, Tritonic are redefining the boundaries of light and dark, hard and soft, crashing and soothing, twisted and relaxed – all daubed with tinges of punk, pop, gospel, math rock, grunge, metal, etc. Formed in 2015 by old friends Peter Jewkes (vocals, guitar, piano and synth), Jonathan Oh (guitar and vocals), Ben Smithers (bass and vocal), and Rob Channon (drums, percussion and vocals), Tritonic has turned international heads with their critically acclaimed releases and energetic, confident performances. Join us as we delve into their latest release, ‘Alexamenos!’.

Following their 2025 single ‘Demiurge’, ‘Alexamenos!’ continues the pivotal evolution of Tritonic’s sound from already hard-hitting, gritty and weighty sounds to something deeper, heavier, grungier, and, well, more intense. Tossing you into a mighty sonic whirlpool, ‘Alexamenos!’ brims with dark crashes of metal and punk hitting you like a sledgehammer right in the gut. Confrontational and abrupt, the track opens like a monster widening his jaws to swallow you whole; however, as the song continues, that monster isn’t so affronting. Slicked with a slice of classic rock, a slip of soothing floods the melody, offering a thread of light in chaotic darkness.

Recorded and produced with Mark Estall, ‘Alexamenos!’ has sophisticated elegance to its insanity, but the rush of madness pushes its boundaries. The crashing drums, dynamic bass, scorching guitars and light synths collide in their tone, but also embrace a harmonic rhythm in its distorted punk grittiness. Melodically, the instrumentation rules, hitting you between the eyes and keeping you dizzied. It’s kind of like taking that searing tequila after a shot of vodka and an apple sour. You know you’ll have a hangover, but the rush is worth it.

In addition to their single, Tritonic released an official music video for ‘Alexamenos!’ using entirely DIY practical effects. You can view the video below and/or on their YouTube channel.
