Billianne – Baby Blue (2025)

With a nod of approval from the likes of Taylor Swift, Oprah, P!nk, Michael Bublé, and The Lumineers, singer-songwriter Billianne is already turning heads of high-flyers in the entertainment industry. Her touring with the likes of KT Tunstall and Half Moon Run, performances on The Kelly Clarkson Show and The Today Show, being described as “music’s next big voice” (The Toronto Star), and numerous features far beyond her Canadian borders, I think it’s safe to say Billianne demands attention. Join us as we delve into her single ‘Baby Blue’.

A taster to her upcoming debut album, Modes of Transportation, set for release in August this year, Billianne weaves between emotional tension, romantic vulnerability, and hopeful eagerness with ten original songs. Keeping the momentum going, ‘Baby Blue’ follows the well-received ‘Future Emma’ and ‘Enough’ with its pop-driven style and sound. Recorded and produced with Nick Ferraro and Duncan Hood, ‘Baby Blue’ can easily be laid alongside songs by KT Tunstall and Taylor Swift – easy to see why anyone with a preference for contemporary pop artists would love Billianne.

Bold and confident, the single brims with pulsating beats amidst a synth-driven rush of kaleidoscopic music; however, it is the subdued vocals layered elegantly within the melody that seemingly gives it a bit of an edge. It’s odd considering Billianne’s voice has a hushed quality, but the veiled haze seems to bring laidback tranquillity to the upbeat, bubble-gum pop bounce. Melodically, it’s an intriguing song, but the lyricism really gives it the youthful edge. Billianne explains:

“This song, like my last pop song, is about longing, but also about realising how you did nothing wrong in a relationship; did nothing but try to be there, but they just couldn’t reciprocate. The taunting lines: “I’ll be looking back just to study it baby, you’ll be looking back like whoopsie daisy” are a light-hearted way of saying “you’re gonna look back and realise you messed this all up.”….”
