Track of the Day: Back One Out – Anthem of the Lost (2025)

A little over two decades ago – 23 years, if you want to be exact – the hard rock meets punk group Back One Out was founded. Drawing together the ferocity of acts like Rise Against, Sum 41, and The Offspring, Back One Out roared from their native Italy with messages of resilience and strength in a contradictory, hyper-critical society. Following a stellar career in the music industry with international success, collaborations with renowned professionals, releasing critically acclaimed albums, and earning a loyal fan base with energetic performances, Back One Out is a name to be remembered.

Beginning this year as the power duo of original member Alberto Velgi (vocals and drums), and new addition Raffaele Marra (guitar, bass and backing vocals), ‘Anthem of the Lost’ drags listeners to the realm of late 1990s/early 2000s alternative rock meets pop-punk music. Pounding drums crash behind a dynamic bass, and soaring guitar – all bound in a united symphony, yet retain individuality as each instrument fights to stand tall and demands attention of its own. It’s this individuality but unity that showcases the innovation of the duo, weaving diversity and harmony into a hard-hitting rock rhythm.

Melodically, ‘Anthem of the Lost’ is set for festivals, and I can imagine thousands of fists pumping in the air as you sing or rather shout along to the lyrics. Yet, just as it is powerful in its sound, the words add a weighty message executed by Velgi’s rich vocals. The band explains:

“This song is an anthem for those who feel lost in a world that demands success and ambition, leaving no room for true identity and real inner needs. It is a critique of modern society and the way people are pushed to chase empty goals, neglecting their deepest essence.”
