Curtis Millen (ft. The Anam Collective) – When Your Mind Wanders (2025)
Grinning like an Irish imp with a mischievous smile, twinkle in his eye, and rambunctious attitude, Belfast-born Curtis Millen has charmed his way into our hearts even though we know he’s probably up to no good. From his debut, ‘Driver’s Seat’, to the well-received ‘Standing On Business’, his soulful vocals and funkadelic sound are turning heads on an international scale. Today, we take a look at Millen’s collaborative single, performing as part of The Anam Collective. Joining the talents of vocalist Millen, guitarist Jaime Garrido Latorre, and drummer Adam Gammage, The Anam Collective brings the masses their soulful debut, ‘When Your Mind Wanders’.
With “Anam” being the Irish word for soul, the Amsterdam-based collaborative pours their passion for all things soul and funk into ‘When Your Mind Wanders’. Produced by Adam Gammage, the melody is a drag back to the soulful sounds of yesteryear – the tinge of Bill Withers fluttering in the sonic breeze. Blending shimmering keys with a bold bass, soaring guitar, and percussion peeking from the background, the tune is a kaleidoscopic concoction of evocative music.
Melodically, ‘When Your Mind Wanders’ is an immersive shove into a smooth sonic river; however, while there is soothing in the honey-soaked tune, Curtis Millen’s vocals bring a sensual edginess to the bold song. Moreover, the shove into a warm, flowing river perfectly aligns with the theme of ‘When Your Mind Wanders’ – it’s a wonderful sauntering through dreamlike waves of sound. The band explain:

Do you ever catch them unaware as they drift away from this reality and into the fantasy scenarios and conversations that lie in the depths of their distant imaginations?… If so, this song is for you. ‘When Your Mind Wanders’ is an ode to those in love with a daydreamer, in love with the one who loves to space out in thoughts.”
