Garrow Hill – We Are All But Nothing (2025)
Wading through the realms of rock music from hard rock to heavy metal, UK-based duo Garrow Hill reaches that part of your brain where nothing but music makes sense. Formed by Stew King (vocals and guitar) and PG Branton (vocals and drums), the pair could be the younger brother of Iron Maiden and Mastodon, but, hey, there’s something there that seems more distinctive. We came across Garrow Hill a few years back with their 2021 single ‘Versions’, and we weren’t the only ones whose heads were turned. Today, we take a look and a listen to their most recent single, ‘We Are All But Nothing’.
Following the well-received single ‘Camouflage’ – both the original version and radio edit – Garrow Hill lean further toward a classic rock flavour with ‘We Are All But Nothing’. Produced by Stew King, Garrow Hill prove themselves sonic alchemists with a shimmering concoction of soaring guitars and crashing drums.
Opening with a contemporary alternative rock flavour, there is something modern about ‘We Are All But Nothing’… then it gets real. With pounding instrumentation, a movement from softer (if we can call alternative rock soft) sounds to thrashing cuts of metal scorching in all its darkness, followed by the guitar-filled crescendo into vintage rock, and then ended by an abrupt “okay, that’s it” halt.
A rollercoaster ride through the darker flecks of rock music, ‘We Are All But Nothing’ is a harrowing rush of tumultuous sound. Dramatic is an understatement with Garrow Hill taking a theatrical, cinematic, and all-around flush of chaos in an organised bubble. Not for the faint-hearted, the single has its gothic nature; however, it doesn’t look at the turmoil but rather the beauty laid within its shadows. King explains:
“This track is our hymn to the void – bleak, beautiful, and unrelenting. It’s meant to stay with you long after it ends.”
In addition to the single, Garrow Hill released an official music video for ‘We Are All But Nothing’. You can view the video below and/or on their YouTube channel.
