June – Will We Dance (2025)

Sauntering through fields of folk music, singer-songwriter June weaves an intimate sonic bouquet of indie-folk and folk-pop bound by traditional Irish music. Eager to celebrate the intricacies of life, but presented in a charming and moving melody, the Irish native merges poignancy and passion with elegance. The latest addition to her discography is the single, ‘Will We Dance’.

Following her well-received singles ‘Up’ and ‘MerryGoRound’, June grabs your hands and twirls you about with the immersive, ‘Will We Dance’. Produced by Asher Condit, the combination of acoustic guitar, piano, drums, and percussion flutter across like fairy lights, bringing a haziness to this joyful celebration; sophisticated and mature, yet an odd sense of vulnerability and freedom exists in its wistful presentation.

Unlike her previous releases, ‘Will We Dance’ seems more intimate and tender, and this might be because of the acoustic approach with tranquil airiness in the arrangement. Can you imagine that joyful dance skipping around a fire with scarves in your hands, your hair loose and flowing, and all worries gone – that’s ‘Will We Dance’.

While the track is a vivid portrayal of soul-lifting happiness, the upbeat nature of the song is sliced by brooding. A song to celebrate love and relationships, ‘Will We Dance’ teeters on the cusp of rose-tinted glasses and happy butterflies in the tummy, but it also invokes the doubtful questions of whether this is going to happen. June’s angelic vocals waver across the song, like a veil of light both descending and rising in the melody. Haunting, ethereal and slightly skin-chilling, she makes your heart skip a beat – but in a really good way.

So, my overall opinion of ‘Will We Dance’? Her debut ‘Up’ and sophomore single ‘MerryGoRound’ were bouncy and fun; a folk-tinged flush of joyful indie music. ‘Will We Dance’, however, retains the joy of June but takes us in another direction. More traditional, more folksy, somewhat airy, but filled with far more heart than the other two. I am eager to hear more from June, and I hope upcoming singles retain the weightiness and warmth of ‘Will We Dance’.
