Track of the Day: Stainvarp – Strong With You (2025)
Widely known for its hard rock and heavy metal music, Sweden has brought artists like Sabaton, Hammerfall, In Flames, and Erik Grönwall to our ears; Stainvarp is another blast of hard rock from the Nordic realm. Hailing from Gotland, Magnus Nilsson and Mattias Larsson draw from the sounds of Alter Bridge, Three Days Grace and Halestorm, but add a contemporary, polished tone, weaving retro with modern-day. According to Spotify, the duo began releasing music as Stainvarp earlier this year with their debut album Resilience. Join me as we jump into their first single in 2025, ‘Strong With You’.
Reminding me greatly of Three Days Grace, ‘Strong With You’ drags listeners back to the 2000s with a wrap of vintage rock engulfing you in a warm embrace. Knocking you into a sonic whirlpool, the pounding drums and soaring guitars twirl about with head-spinning sensations; however, just as the track is heavy and hard, it offers warm vulnerability, so you can sink into the music but know you’re not alone in this weave of darkness.
Polished and mature, Nilsson’s production brings sophistication to the arrangement. The thing is, as I mentioned, the element of vulnerability, ‘Strong With You’ is tinged with grit and gravel, enhanced by the gruff vocals in a smashing move of guitars and drums. It reminds me of Three Days Grace’s One-X era, so it breathes life into nostalgic whispers. Moreover, as with the Canadian rock group, Stainvarp’s ‘Strong With You’ delicately unpicks the profoundness of human emotion, delving into the harsh brutality of isolation, loneliness, but with an overall empowerment shining at the end.
