Louise M – Escape (2025)
Classically trained through all piano grades as a child, singer-songwriter Louise M found solace in her music. With original compositions and experimentation, she was able to traverse the challenges facing young people today. In her own words, “Growing up, songwriting and improv were the best ways I could express myself and all the (many) emotions you go through as a teenager and young adult.” Now a dedicated piano teacher, she shares her passion and skills with others, aiming to connect, resonate and offer hope to audiences near and far. The latest addition to her discography is the single, ‘Escape’.
Her first release since 2023’s single ‘Lost’, ‘Escape’ is her step into the contemporary pop/house scene. Influenced by the likes of Billie Eilish and Aurora, the track brims with bold beats entwined with shimmering synths – it’s like bouncing electronica racing across your skin with jovial skips and bounces. Produced with whenthebeatisbad, there is an electronic pop sophistication to the track made for a dancefloor anthem, but a sense of frenzied urgency darting across the melody’s underbelly.
The rush of electronic beats pulsates like a racing heart, yet there is a smooth release halfway through ‘Escape’, offering a breath in the swarm of pop music. For me, it is not merely the melody that engages, but Louise M’s vocals. Breathy and wistful, they are but a hushed, subdued whisper in ‘Escape’. Yet, despite the delicacy of her light voice, it twinkles with charm and is like a friend holding your hand, navigating the chaotic dancefloor.
So, what is my overall opinion of Louise M and ‘Escape’? Shifting from a lighter pop tone in 2023’s ‘Lost’, ‘Escape’ is a bold stomp into the realm of electronic pop. Louise M is an interesting artist, but I’m unsure whether she stands out entirely. Despite her confident performances at festivals and positive reviews, for me, only time will tell.
