Waterpistol – Felin (2026)
Described as “…psych-rockers occupying that sweet spot between modern-day and gold age rock ‘n’ roll”, Waterpistol breathe life into nostalgic moments while hitting you between the eyes with a contemporary flair. While there are only a few singles in their discography, according to Spotify, Waterpistol is turning heads with their confident performances, infectious energy, and raw melodies. Formed in late 2022, the six-piece has played at several notable festivals, including FOCUS Wales, In It Together Festival, and Green Man. Moreover, they have been playlisted on DIY Magazine, and recently awarded BBC Horizons’ 2026 Launchpad Fund in partnership with the Arts Council Wales and BBC Cymru Wales. Join us as we delve into their most recent release, ‘Felin’.
Following the well-received 2025 single ‘Shotgun’, Harry Watton (vocals and percussion), Rhea Padua (vocals), Emma Way (bass guitar), Carwyn Whiteman (guitar), Aaron Tormey (guitar), Efan Watkins (drums), Mia Lane (background vocals) and Luis Hancock (background vocals) join their talents in ‘Felin’. Self-recorded and produced, the track has a modern-day rock vibe; however, drags people back to the psych-rock days of the 70s and 80s. Hazy, fuzzy and a little cinematic, ‘Felin’ is like flying across a sonic pool surrounded by sparkling lights, airy ambience and a glittery wisp of smoke that is almost palpable.
Completely harmonic and united, the bass weaves with guitars, drums keep a steady anthem in the background, and the percussion swims along with elegance; each note showcases Waterpistol’s camaraderie and innate understanding of each other’s musicality. It’s like they don’t even have to compare notes to know what the other will offer in this raw, honest breath of sound.
One of my favourite films is Hair, and ‘Felin’ could easily be placed as a song on the soundtrack – the one everyone sings along to while enjoying the moment. This is my introduction to Waterpistol, with a mention of more material in 2026, I am eager to hear more from the South Wales rockers.
