The Burton D’Agostini Procedure – Would You (2026)
After meeting at Central Michigan University some time ago, music veterans Jeff Burton and John D’Agostini came together to bond over and create music. At the age of 18, the lads formed their first band, The Rollercoaster of Tranquillity; since then, each has built a rich history with individual projects and alongside each other.
The aim of The Burton D’Agostini Procedure: to “share music with people who love very stereo headphone music…”, and leaping across the sounds of the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, and some of the 21st century, D’Agostini and Burton prove that good music is good music, regardless of the time, space, distance or generation. From The Moody Blues to Tame Impala, each song is a fusion of yesteryear and present, and this is clearly evident in their latest album, As Clowns Drift By, with the track ‘Would You’ being explored in this review.
The fourth track from As Clowns Drift By, ‘Would You’ breathes life into whispers of Pink Floyd, veiling us in a mystical, ethereal gauze of music. No scorching or pounding instruments in ‘Would You’ – just a soft, soothing binding of steady drums, a mellow bassline, and silvery guitar swimming across the melody. Gentle, calm, and breezy, but without being too light and airy, Burton and D’Agostini hold you in their arms with a soothing hug.
The melody itself can send you floating off on a mellifluous sonic river; however, and this is for me, it is the vocals that carry you along, holding your hand with a sincere smile. Hushed, breathy and almost haunting, but not quite, each line is another part of a lullaby sending you to that comfortable, happy place where dreams are made.
This is my introduction to The Burton D’Agostini Procedure, and I really wasn’t sure what to expect. What I discovered is a special gem in the mass of songs I hear each day, a simple sweetness and calming charm to make an already hectic week a little easier.
