Track of the Day: Sarah McGuinness – Don’t Let Our Love Go (2018)
With a biography entitled Grit, Glitter and Gaslight, Sarah McGuinness is a beacon of resilience, strength, and female empowerment, checked in a cheeky wink and seductive smile. We came across the award-nominated director, producer and musician in 2020 with her single, ‘Christmas Everyday (No More Sad Songs)’; since then, she has astounded international audiences with her feisty charm, elegant sophistication, and a mastery of her artistic endeavours – mature and full-bodied, but with an innocence lurking in the devilish exterior. Join us as we delve into her single, ‘Don’t Let Our Love Go’.
Originally released in 2018, and one of the ten songs on her well-received album Unbroken Deluxe Edition, ‘Don’t Let Our Love Go’ is a powerful sweep of sound, breathing life into the whispers of old-school soul and blues. A love anthem to Soho, the melodic stomp of sound is toe-tapping, finger-clicking, and charming in its soothing, decadent fusion of horns, guitar, drums and McGuinness rich vocals.
I find this melodic thrust back to yesteryear particularly intriguing, as it captures not only the sound of Soho in one particular era, but creates a picture of the ever-changing, vibrant, vivid eras in Soho. The 1930s with soulful swingers, while the decadence of the 60s and 70s crept ahead, the tenaciousness of the 80s, and a quick curve to what can exist in that cultural twirl of existence.
Produced with Bosco Mann, ‘Don’t Let Our Love Go’ is… well, it’s remarkably intriguing, and if it were a person, they’d be particularly handsome with an infectious personality drawing you to their world with a big grin; I suppose, that’s Sarah McGuinness in a nutshell with her kaleidoscopic allure. Moreover, if this seductive strut across the speakers isn’t enough to enthral, McGuinness returns to Soho to the doors of the renowned Halyon Club on March 22nd – a one-night event. We might not be there, but you should make your way down and enjoy the show.
For a real treat, why not watch the live video of Sarah McGuinness performing ‘Don’t Let Our Love Go’? Released a couple of years ago on YouTube, the single might have been recorded in New York but was brought to life onstage in Edinburgh.
