Kwolek – Atmosphere (2026)
What a way to blow the chill of winter away than with some joyous indie, which is exactly what I got when listening to the new single from Colorado-based Kwolek. ‘Atmosphere’ is the first single from his upcoming album Reveal, which is due out this spring. This absolute modern Renaissance man writes, sings, plays guitar and synths, programs drums, records, mixes, and designs the cover art. This kind of workmanship can only be admired and speaks volumes about the fidelity of the artist.
Now let’s get into ‘Atmosphere’!
Kicking off with rolling drums, it hits at one hundred miles an hour, especially when accompanied by a clinical guitar riff. I was foot tapping straight away, and as soon as the vocals kicked in, I knew I was all in with Kwolek. I could not help but draw comparisons to one of my all-time favourite bands, Modest Mouse. I’ve never known anyone to be able to come close to nailing that kaleidoscopic indie sound by pulling in influences from all over the shop, that is, until now!
I loved the way Kwolek holds the tune and wraps it all up neatly in a package. I was astounded to discover how much of a labour of love ‘Atmosphere’ has been for Kwolek – nearly 10 years in the making, in fact! Having started in 2016, a decade’s worth of experience can be heard throughout the track. The control he has over the whole process is evident and adds an authenticity to the song, knowing that we’re hearing exactly what the artist set out to create.
‘Atmosphere’ is something anyone who loves music as an art will adore. I cannot find any fault in this track. I have honestly not gleaned such pure joy from a single song, the way I have with this in a very long time.
I’ll leave you with a quote from Kwolek when talking about the track: “Everything is speeding up – life flies by in ways you won’t conceive, then it’s gone”. Keeping that in mind, here is to enjoying as much as possible and especially the great music out there, including hopefully much, much more Kwolek!
