BoyBoy – Fugazi (2023)

Australia-based producer and singer-songwriter BoyBoy has been entertaining the masses since 2019 with his unique music. He began his musical journey as a bedroom producer in 2018 but as he honed his craft, he started releasing singles to critical acclaim. To date, he has performed with notable Australian act Arno Faraji, played at notable venues like The Aardvark in Fremantle and made an appearance on RTR FM; however, for me at least, the fact that his music is played regularly at cafes to “relax the patrons” is the most awesome way of reaching an audience. The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘Fugazi’.

Blasting into 2023 with ‘Fugazi’, BoyBoy shifts from an urban style to a jazz-filled slice of soul. Laidback and chilled, a mellifluous soothing ooze from the deep bass, fleeting piano and heavy drums. While the single has a gentle vibe to it embracing you in a warm melodic hug, there is a tinge of melancholy following through the song. A mixture of vulnerability, angst and anxiety emerges from BoyBoy’s vocals; however, an optimistic passion flits through ‘Fugazi’.

Composed to capture the emotional rollercoaster felt when dealing with the highs and lows of the music industry, ‘Fugazi’ fills us with the enlightenment of artists’ struggles. When speaking about ‘Fugazi’, BoyBoy explains:

“’Fugazi’ is my interpretation of what I feel most artists endure and go through before they make it. All the love feels fake in the music game and it’s hard to determine who wants to help and who wants to use you. At times, this can be discouraging as you feel alone in the game but knowing that you have real people and real family who will always support you gives you that extra push you need to keep going…”

Sincere, powerful and tapping into the raw emotions behind ill intentions, BoyBoy offers you a friendly hand with ‘Fugazi’.
