Coffee House Anarchists – ART_Official Intelligence (2025)

One word to describe Coffee House Anarchists is diverse; a constantly evolving three-piece that never stands still, at least not when it comes to music. In an interview with The Other Side Reviews, frontman Justin shared that everything inspires Coffee House Anarchists “…because there is so much to be inspired by.” Celebrating life in its multi-faceted, constantly changing and evolving – for better or worse – Justin, Alex and William creatively express… well, reality and humanity. Inspired by the introduction of AI, Coffee House Anarchists release their single, ‘ART_Official Intelligence’.

Self-recorded and produced, with AI giving its two cents in the song’s composition, ‘ART_Official Intelligence’ is Coffee House Anarchists’ first release since 2022’s ‘One For Sorrow’. Shifting from the indie-folk sounds of 2022, ‘ART_Official Intelligence’ taps into the alternative pop realm bound by bold beats, shimmering synths, with a haunting gothic illusion clinging to the melody. For me, however, it is not merely the melody that makes the song; for me, it is the execution of the lyrics that captures the core of the AI revolution.

Taking the fore, Justin’s vocals have a digital, robotic-like effect with the pointedly spoken word style. Yet, as much as you feel like you’re being sucked into a dystopian anime where the robots are taking over, links to the underlying instruments, albeit it electronic, is both creepy but comforting in some weird way.

“The release was influenced by how much AI is becoming present in today’s world. Whilst most musicians are fighting against the advance of AI, we decided to do the opposite. That meant embracing the technology that is out there and seeing what could be done with it. It was a fascinating journey, and the aim was never to press a button and instantly have a finished piece of work; that isn’t artistry, it’s just the illusion of artistry. Instead, we tried to partner with the AI to see what it could actually propose in terms of musical ideas and then edit, adapt and create with the results to take it to the next level.” – Coffee House Anarchists on ‘ART_Official Intelligence’
