DrewJam – Holding Fast (2025)
Quickly building a name as one of the more intriguing indie artists in the UK music scene, DrewJam captures, well, life in his moving melodies. From the gritty experiences of loss and isolation to the spirit of resilience and strength, DrewJam encapsulates each raw emotion, each vulnerability, each sincerity, and each encouragement with rock-inspired flair. We were introduced to the UK-based singer-songwriter with his single ‘Friends With A Fool’, where he wistfully explored the significance of influence and changing realities. Today, we take a gander at the most recent addition to his discography, ‘Holding Fast’.
Following his critically acclaimed 2024 single ‘Sweetest Desires’ and the 2025 song ‘Friends With A Fool’, ‘Holding Fast’ is the third emotionally profound single contributing to his upcoming 2026 album. Produced by DrewJam (also known as Andrew James Knox), ‘Holding Fast’ retains the indie-rock sound we tend to hear from his material; however, a shiver of classic rock makes its way to the song, drawing ‘Holding Fast’ into the realm of soft rock.
A heart-warming and tender ballad, ‘Holding Fast’ is a song of oscillation and escalation both melodically and lyrically. Opening with the simplistic matching of a piano and DrewJam’s rich vocals, the track appears a barebones ballad. Yet, as the song progresses, the rush of dynamic guitars runs along with Ross Gardner’s crashing drums, adding the classic rock crescendo. Interestingly, as the thrust of heavier sound floods your ears, ‘Holding Fast’ ends with a step back to the acoustic piano.
Waving their magical production wand over ‘Holding Fast’, DrewJam and Max Hopwood (mixing and mastering) play with both loud and soft, fast and slow, soothing and tumultuousness, and classical structure with a blast of contemporary disorder in the track. One element remains constant in the single: emotional sensitivity. The melody already pulls you into a wave of light and dark, but the lyricism tips between instability and persistence. DrewJam explains:
“’Holding Fast’ is about those moments when the world feels unstable and impossible to navigate; when faced with loss, you have to anchor yourself in something real – even if that something is just a feeling or a fleeting memory. It’s quiet, but it’s persistent and about not letting go.”
