DrewJam – What If We Stayed Here (2025)
Known not only for the strength of his music but also the emotional depth of every interwoven tale, singer-songwriter DrewJam (also known as Andrew James Knox) turns your head with his sound, then wins your heart with his words. We came across the UK-based musician earlier this year with his well-received single, ‘Friends with a Fool’ – a track that explored the complexities when loved ones are “influenced to make choices and take paths”. Next, we delved into the single ‘Holding Fast’ – a track exploring the instability and confusion of reality. Today, we take a gander at his most recent release, ‘What If We Stayed Here’.
Continuing the theme of memories, reflection, and insight into the intricacies of human relationships, ‘What If We Stayed Here’ “…captures the bittersweet pull between staying in a perfect moment and returning to life… asks the central question, “what if we stayed here”, blending holiday joy with a deeper reflection on time, hesitation, and the longing for moments that last….” Lyrically, DrewJam creates this insightful conversation between two friends (you and him) as you ponder the depth of the situation. It’s a song for buddies nattering over hot chocolate, a few biscuits, and flutters of smiles and sighs. Words are significant, but it is the melody that seems to capture the pieces between presence, escape and choice.
Produced by DrewJam with Max Hopwood (sound engineering) and Dan James Short (mixing and mastering), ‘What If We Stayed Here’ has a cinematic soundscape with an airiness to the track. The combination of DrewJam’s guitar matches Ross Gardner’s drums with a piano enhancing its calm languidness; however, as much as there is tranquillity in the melody, an underlying vulnerability slips within the tune as DrewJam’s vocals quiver with the desire to stay but knowledge you’ll probably have to leave.
Sincere, sentimental, honest and original, ‘What If We Stayed Here’ is an insightful song that not only plucks at your heartstrings but also invokes whimsical smiles. With the mention of a full album planned for 2026, I am excited about the diverse music yet to come. Until then, I’ll happily travel through DrewJam’s existing discography.
