Eoghan Moylan – I Love It When You Lie To Me (2022)

Irish musician Eoghan Moylan says that his life goal is “to be the best storyteller he possibly can be using whatever tools and mediums available to him to reach his maximum potential.” In all honesty, I am unsure whether he knew music would take his storytelling to higher heights when he was teaching himself to play music in his grandmother’s kitchen as a child. Now, he is a celebrated singer-songwriter from Galway receiving coverage from international press like Hot Press, Music From The Heart, Send Me Your Ears, RTE, Latin Post, and various playlists. The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘I Love It When You Lie To Me’.

Following his well-received sophomore track ‘All I Want Is Money’, Moylan finds the line between alternative pop and indie-rock with strong synths woven through ‘I Love It When You Lie To Me’. Imagine The White Stripes merging with The Strokes and Two Door Cinema Club, and you might have an idea of Moylan’s hard-hitting sound. Tossing you immediately into a sonic whirlpool, the song’s melody spins you about with its rough ambience; however, there is a smooth-flowing tone in its kaleidoscopic soundscape.

Penned while trying to deal with his flooded apartment in Granada, ‘I Love It When You Lie To Me’ touches on paranoia, toxic relationships, inner turmoil, anxiety and despair. Not necessarily what one would think about when dealing with flooding, but hey whatever works, and it worked well. The dark, gruff melody captures the uncomfortable emotions felt when feeling, well, paranoid. The poetic lyricism takes it one step further as we hear fear, turmoil and vulnerability in the track. Plus, alongside the moody lyricism, Moylan’s dulcet vocals enhance the overwhelming evocative nature of ‘I Love It When You Lie To Me’.

Sincere, sentimental and moving in its palpably gritty way, Eoghan Moylan intoxicates us with his new track ‘I Love It When You Lie To Me’.
