Faye Donna Francis – Thrill Of It (2026)
Liverpool singer-songwriter Faye Donna Francis makes her eagerly anticipated return with ‘Thrill Of It’. It is her first single release for three years. Donna Francis has described her music as “Scouse soul” or “sad chill R&B“. The track could be something you would find on Amy Winehouse’s Frank, think ‘Stronger Than Me’, soulful R&B with a hip-hop edge.
This is an anthem empowering women to call out their cheating boyfriends. An open letter to a former love, turned sour. Donna Francis has a very contemporary yet classic sound. She can be likened to the aforementioned Winehouse, Skye Newman and Annemarie.
‘Thrill Of It’ has a fantastic sliding bassline, which the listener is treated to for the majority of the track. There’s also lovely drums and nice synth effects. Once the chorus kicks in, it becomes full of rich, layered harmonies. You could be mistaken for thinking that it’s a full gospel choir. There’s a great tempo to this infectiously smooth R&B track.
The subject of heartbreak is one Donna Francis has revisited on previous releases, and these are such definite emotions. “It’s you I held in high regard / Oh how you fell so far” proclaims the bridge, noting how much their old flame’s crown has slipped. Donna Francis showcases her skills as a writer with the intelligent lyric: “Thought love was on the cards / But you wasn’t dealing hearts“. Lyrically, the track pulls no punches, best demonstrated in the chorus: “Caught up in the thrill of it / In between her legs you saw no consequence”. There is zero doubt that this track holds the offender completely accountable.
Donna Francis has recently played a well-received gig at Liverpool Sound City with a full live band, and got into music at the recommendation of her therapist. On her new single, she states: “I made this song to explore all the emotions that come with betrayal, the disbelief, the sadness, the questioning, and honestly the audacity of being cheated on. But now when I listen to this song, I honestly feel so cathartic”. ‘Thrill Of It’ is accompanied by a simple but visually appealing video directed by Ollie Bradley-Baker, which displays Donna Francis and friends going mental with baseball bats!
This is a triumphant return after a long layoff from a gifted artist who is ready to cement her position in the music scene.
