Foundry Town Survivors – Three Sisters (2025)
Bringing the best of raw vintage rock to our ears, the US-based Foundry Town Survivors are simultaneously dragging us back to yesteryear while keeping their feet in the 21st century with timeless concepts and themes. We came across Foundry Town Survivors some time back with their 2021 single ‘Mississippi Rising’, and since then, the lads have continued to bind contemporary indie and hard rock with slices of retro rock rhythms. Join us as we take a look and listen to their most recent single, ‘Three Sisters’.
Have you ever heard of the nautical Three Sisters phenomenon? Nope, neither had I until I Googled it. A series of three powerful rogue waves strikes a ship in quick succession and, well, it’s tumultuous to say the least. Foundry Town Survivors captured the strength, turmoil, and all-around “what the hell was that” quality of the Three Sisters in this new single. Interestingly, it’s not as crazy as you might think.
Produced by one half of the Foundry Town Survivors, multi-instrumentalist Mark Tomorsky, is a blend of lap steel, dobro, guitars and drums. The track evokes the spirit of the three sisters, but it does so with a harmonic rhythm culminating in a roaring electric guitar crescendo kicking the ship aside.
When reading about the phenomenon, I expected a song brimming with chaotic crashes, thrashes and shifts of sound; however, ‘Three Sisters’ appears quite calming with a toe-tapping gentleness – this is the deception. Harmonic and a fun ride across a languid sonic river, ‘Three Sisters’ elegantly wafts by with kaleidoscopic charm. There is a degree of sensuality in the backing female vocals, as well as Tommy Johnsmiller’s rich voice, but it also hides a degree of mystery with eeriness and a haunting chill down the spine.
Using their storytelling skills, the narrative of ‘Three Sisters’ is a tale of “a seasoned steamship embarking on a routine voyage, only to be tormented and ultimately destroyed by the Sisters…” It is this lilt of urgency entwined with a seductive sound that makes Foundry Town Survivors dangerous, but danger in the best way.
In addition to the single, Foundry Town Survivors released an official music video for ‘Three Sisters’. You can view the video below and/or on their YouTube channel.
