Giuseppe Bonaccorso – L’Ombra della Terra (2025)
With poetic lyricism, moving melodies, and an eclectic composition style, singer-songwriter Giuseppe Bonaccorso is anything but pedestrian. Leaning strongly toward the experimental, avant-garde, atonal side of things, it’s difficult to predict what the Italian artist will set before our ears; however, the uncertainty is all part of the fun. This is our introduction to Bonaccorso, and given his reputation for obscure, alternative music, I am eager to discover something a bit out there. Join us as we delve into his latest release, ‘L’Ombra della Terra’.
Following the provocative single, ‘Playground In Gaza’, the self-produced ‘L’Ombra della Terra’ retains the cinematic quality of Bonaccorso’s music, but is far more experimental in its composition and execution. Not one to stick to the tried-and-true design, ‘L’Ombra della Terra’ might be considered a mish-mash of different genres, but is more a joining of artistic mediums than finding the line between alternative pop, dark pop and avant-garde. Simplistic in one way, the instrumentation is almost barebones, with percussion lying alongside a piano and a guitar lingering in the mix. Each instrument and element could be likened to a single voice shouting out in both unison and a desire to receive individual attention. It’s bold, brassy and brash, yet there is a strange unity in its off-kilter expression.
Piercing and pulsating, this song is not for the faint-hearted – particularly if you’re looking for something mainstream or contemporary. Along with the obscure instruments, the vocal execution acts like an anchor in a twirl of confusion. Rich and confident, Bonaccorso speaks rather than sings, holding a poetic conversation which ties everything in a golden bow but still stares directly into your soul.
Melodically, ‘L’Ombra della Terra is… well, it’s something alright. Inimitable and undefinable, you can expect the unexpected with the track. While the tune is already weighty, the narrative adds an intriguing slant to an overwhelming song. Bonaccorso explains: “…the song, ‘L’Ombra della Terra’, represents the inner journey of a man who, starting from his observation of reality, rediscovers his inner rebellion and embarks on a journey that will lead him to absolute emancipation.”
In addition to the single, Giuseppe Bonaccorso released an official music video for ‘L’Ombra della Terra’. You can view the video below and/or on his YouTube channel.
