SheBeat – Remember Love (2021)

Drawing together ambient vibes and engaging lyricism, SheBeat is a UK-based musician with an eclectic style. I might describe her music as being a form of dream-pop or shoegaze, but either cannot adequately define the unique sound of SheBeat. Featured on various publications like Indie Band Guru, Less Than 1000 Followers, Iggy Magazine, This Is The Beat and several playlists, Jodie Schofield (the face behind the name) is reaching individuals on an international level. The latest addition to her critically acclaimed discography is ‘Remember Love’.

Following her singles ‘Homecoming Queen’ and ‘So Into You’ (read our review here), ‘Remember Love’ is filled with soothing synths underlying whimsical vocals. Achieving a cinematic and abstract sound, listening to the new track is like wading through a misty lake without a clear view in the dense fog. The thing is, while there might be a reflective poignancy in the track, it is a jubilant one focusing on new relationships. Schofield shares that ‘Remember Love’ is “…a declaration to a new love with all the optimism and joy that involves infused into music and lyrics.”

What I find intriguing about this track is not the innocent vulnerability and hopeful infatuation in the lyricism, but how it aligns perfectly with the otherworldly melody. Schofield’s heartfelt vocals are reminiscent of Amanda Palmer’s obscurity, but a rather soft and flowing sound instead of Palmer’s typical brashness. The harmonic ballad offers an ethereal vibe that you can easily relax to or twirl about until you’re giddy with the romantic sensations. Either way, ‘Remember Love’ certainly hits you between the eyes, reverberates down your spine and has you swimming in a bubble of sound.

In addition to the single, SheBeat released an official lyric video for ‘Remember Love’. Please note: this video contains patterns and image transitions that can trigger seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy. Watch at your own discretion.
