Harry Kappen – Good Samaritans (2026)
In our interview with Harry Kappen, he left our readers with a single line of advice: “be kind to each other”. A significant message that is often overlooked in a narcissistic, egotistical, artificial world of TikTok trends, reality shows and influencers, being kind tends to take a backseat. Yet, Kappen explores humanity’s sense of sincerity, compassion, and tenderness – all communicated in his new single, ‘Good Samaritans’.
“The song contrasts the selflessness of ordinary people with a culture increasingly driven by appearances, social media performance, empty slogans, carefully filtered images, and inflated egos… Against that artificial landscape stand the good Samaritans – people who remain largely unseen, never trend only and rarely receive applause… An ode to the people who naturally stand ready to help others whenever needed without patting themselves on the back, but simply out of compassion…” – Harry Kappen on ‘Good Samaritans’
Lyrically and thematically, ‘Good Samaritans’ is not a slap in the face to see those compassionate helpers, but it definitely draws attention to empathy and compassion for others. Melodically, the single is not necessarily a soundtrack to the lost superheroes, but it embraces the joy of being there for another individual in times of need with an elegant rock vibe.
Self-produced, ‘Good Samaritans’ is taken from Kappen’s recent album, After The Crossing, and highlights the influence of David Bowie in his music. Dynamic drums match a bold bass keeping pace in the melody; however, it is the soaring, scorching, swirling sweep of Kappen’s guitar that drives the song with an anthemic groove. The rich but rugged and gritty vocals dance across the track, weaving into the arrangement but also serving as the guiding force in an emotional soundscape.
Would I listen to ‘Good Samaritans’ again? Sure thing. As part of his album, I have this track and many others to enjoy.
