Fall Into The Sky – Awake (2026)
You remember that band you knew once upon a time that was really exciting, but then they disappeared on and off for several years? In fact, you aren’t sure whether they are together or disbanded right now. Fall Into The Sky is one of those bands. Originally formed almost 20 years ago, the US-based group went through “years of breakups, moves and restarts” – a group that shouldn’t have stayed together. Today, they’re back with their new EP, Awake, bringing “older material together with who we are now”.
Following their singles ‘Everlong’ and ‘Come Inside’, Fall Into The Sky’s four-track EP is a mish-mash of old-school alternative rock with a contemporary hard rock rub. You can hear the influence of Radiohead and Incubus; however, a uniqueness exists within the familiar sounds, making Fall Into The Sky something refreshingly new but also incredibly comfortable. After listening to the EP in totality, Awake is more than a studio recording; it is a vivid, vibrant sonic experience pulling you into their world of rock. So, come along as we take a walk through Fall Into The Sky’s sonic forest.
Opening with the title track, Fall Into The Sky welcomes you in a haze of Matt Cole’s drums, Dan Lupo’s bass, Matt Lombardi’s guitar, and George Karaisarides’ vocals. Silky and smooth, soft and calming despite the heaviness of its hard rock sheen, that opening track is a mild introduction to something greater.
Next, the glistening sonic river on which you glide trembles with ripples from the tumultuous waves ahead. Full-bodied and weighty, ‘Into The Water’ has you holding your breath while losing yourself in the darkness… no, not darkness, rather a shade where the light isn’t altogether gone. From ‘Into The Water’, the lads immediately shift into ‘Find My Way’. More upbeat and toe-tapping, with the flit of funk whipping in the soundscape. At this point, you’re travelling across the kaleidoscopic river – the waves disappearing and the open expanse of heavy guitar riffs and rhythmic instrumentation unfolds.
Finally, we have ‘Step Into The Silence’. Potentially my favourite track on Awake, ‘Step Into The Silence’ is the final movement on the sonic river pushed from an easy hard rock tone to a slice and swerve of classic rock before sending you to sea with their silvery, silky, skin-tingling sweep of sound.
Melodically, Awake is an enigmatic, enchating collective of songs, but the concept and lyricism – executed in a rich, bold, but also vulnerable voice – are what add poignant weightiness. Staring into the void between who you were, where you are, what you imagine becoming, but aren’t sure how to get there, Fall Into The Sky unpacks vulnerability, fragility and raw human experience in Awake.
