heavy on the heart. – Not Now, Love (2023)

Technically formed when bassist Andrew Nicolae joined the band in late-2022, heavy on the heart. was sort of founded in 2021, they just didn’t know it. After guitarist Costas Themistocleous’ former band PRSNA abruptly split, he and vocalist Nikki Brady decided to start writing music with the intention of forming a group. Later in 2021, drummer Nick Kolokathis joined the pair and finally in 2022, with the addition of Nicolae, heavy on the heart. was born.

Following the well-received debut track ‘Mr. Know It All’, the foursome once again hit you in the chest with a blend of pop-rock and pop-punk in ‘Not Now, Love’. Reminiscent of Paramore with Brady’s vocals lilting toward Hayley Willams, the sophomore single is rambunctious with upbeat infectiousness. Yet, while a nod to Paramore is noted, heavy on the heart. weaves heavier pop-rock tones into the sonic tapestry. Pounding drums match dynamic guitars as they ebb and flow in crashing sonic waves. It’s clear to see why they were chosen as an opening act for The Color Fred.

Recorded and produced at Sound Acre Recording Studio with Gary Cioni and mixed by Phil Dubnick, ‘Not Now, Love’ found life in April this year. Originally penned in October 2021, the track sat on the backburner for some time but its burst to audiences is kaleidoscopic. The instrumentation is harmonious and has a strong pop-punk vibe to it; however, each instrument stands up demanding to be heard before settling into the well-textured whole. It is this rise, fall and attention to detail that proves how elegant and sophisticated the overall production is.

An all-encompassing melody to intoxicate audiences but the relatability and power of ‘Not Now, Love’ comes through in its lyricism. The band explain that this song is “…a love song regarding two people who have not fulfilled their love for one another yet. It tells a story of two individuals who can’t deny the kinetic connection but who have yet to act upon it.”

Filled with cheerful tones lurking through a rambunctious swirl of melodic bliss, heavy on the heart. catch our breaths with the single ‘Not Now, Love’.
