heyimmanic – OD (2022)

If A Day To Remember were to have a child with Billie Eilish, but New Found Glory raised it, the chances are it would be heyimmanic. Blending pop-punk with emo-rap and a hip-hop edge, the US-based artist’s sound is a melting pot of genres – all filled with hardcore attitude, though. Featured on Find No Enemy, RGM, The Other Side Reviews (that’s us!) and numerous playlists, the press is undoubtedly turning their heads to follow heyimmanic. The latest addition to his well-received discography is the single ‘OD’.

Following his alternative rock track ‘my REGRETS’, ‘OD’ is heyimmanic’s testimonial to overcoming obsession and addiction. He explains that ‘OD’ was inspired by his “throwing up black after mixing substances…I was actively taking benzos and drinking for about a year; only later would I find out how deadly it really was and that the black in my vomit meant I was bleeding.” – not something anyone would want to deal with, but out of the tragedy comes a hopeful future and ‘OD’ points this out.

As I mentioned, the core of ‘OD’ is dealing with addiction and obsession, but only you can make that happen. It is difficult to discover and admit you are wrong but “…only then can people help you change”. What I find intriguing is how the up-tempo track appears to have a toe-tapping sound, but the melodic arrangement also has a shocking effect. Telling you the tale of his addiction, ‘OD’ share his experience in clear lyrical content; however, the production appears to have as much of a panicked feeling. It is if you are terrified for the lad, that he will make bad decisions and find himself overdosing.

Slightly scary with a brutally honest reflection, ‘OD’ is insightful, genuine and sentimental in its own way. All I can say is I highly recommend this track for everyone.
