HitherFurther – A Man Amongst The Ruins (2026)
Self-described as “music within the dream machine”, singer-songwriter HitherFurther fuses dreams with comfortable music, giving you the best of the moment. Then again, dreams aren’t always pleasant, so his music might be disconcerting, uncomfortable and cold. Which one is it? Join us as we delve into HitherFurther’s new single, ‘A Man Amongst The Ruins’.
Following his debut single, ‘Seagulls (Overwhelm The Sky)’, ‘A Man Amongst The Ruins’ is the next track off HitherFurther’s debut album (said to drop later in 2026). Similar to his debut, the new single continues to lean toward indie-rock tones. The wash of Oasis flutters across the tune, which makes sense in a way, with the song being inspired by Noel Gallagher. Yet, unlike ‘Seagulls (Overwhelm The Sky), ‘A Man Amongst The Ruins’ clutches at 90s alt-rock with its heavy mix of guitars and drums.
In the beginning, one might consider ‘A Man Amongst The Ruins’ to be steady, well-paced, and an easy walk through a rock-filled sonic forest; however, this isn’t altogether the case. Lulling you into an almost false sense of security, the steady drumbeat acts as an anchor in the melody, but the crescendo in soaring guitars draws off the veil of stability to a free-flowing rush of guitar-driven music.
An oscillation between liberating waves of fresh air and plodding along, the instrumentation pulls you on a rollercoaster ride of emotions. Yet, and this is for me, it is HitherFurther’s vocals that bring the indie-rock push, both leading you into a bubble of rambunctiousness but also a friendly hand to navigate the music. Mostly, and once again, this is for me, the rich voice calms you, comforts you, and adds a personal intimacy to ‘A Man Amongst The Ruins’.
With his debut single, we wondered whether ‘Seagulls (Overwhelm The Sky)’ was HitherFurther’s peak, because some artists hit their best with the first track, and it’s only downhill from there. ‘A Man Amongst The Ruins’ keeps HitherFurther’s run on an even keel. Not much versatility just yet, but by no means is his indie-rock-fuelled tone unenjoyable. With the mention of an upcoming album, I am eager to see where he takes us.
