James Vickery – Right Side (2025)

Able to weave through various realms of music and come out with raw emotion, evocative sound, and a powerful presence each time takes skill. It takes patience, understanding, and a natural talent to bind emotion and music in beautiful tapestries; James Vickery has this skill. A distinctive character in the RnB music scene, but with bold insertions of soul, funk, jazz and even 80s pop, the UK-based Vickery shows various sides to his personality while retaining an individuality that is entirely his own. We were introduced to Vickery with his single ‘Hotel Lobby’, and today we take a gander at his new single, ‘Right Side’.

Following the well-received singles ‘Hotel Lobby’ and ‘Butter’, ‘Right Side’ draws together elements of contemporary pop and vintage soul with a flicker of 90s RnB rounding things off with an edgy kick. Produced with Larrance Dopson and Quintin Gulledge, the single is a multi-coloured concoction of bold beats, synths, and twinkling keys that give off the synthetic flavour of pop songs; however, a raw, organic honesty resonates in Vickery’s rich vocals.

Taken from his upcoming album, JAMES – an album that Vickery describes as “…capturing every essence that makes up the different components of myself…” – ‘Right Side’ tackles one of the more unusual aspects of James Vickery, the individual. While it appears to be a bouncy love ballad singing about the need to stay together, ‘Right Side’ is actually a little quirkier in its theme. It’s not about the complexities of relationships, but as Vickery explains:

“I love the idea of something being disguised as a love song, so this was inspired by the fact that I always have to be on the left side of someone due to my deafness… I don’t want to be a sad story, I’m very proud of going through what I have and coming out the other side.”

In addition to the single, James Vickery released an official music video for ‘Right Side’. The video can be viewed below and/or on his YouTube channel.
