Jesse Kloos – Psilocybin Elephant (2026)
Filmmaker, composer and musician Jesse Kloos embraces sonic and visual means of expression to share his creativity with the world. Generally doing the score for films, his music has a cinematic vibe to enhance emotion in films; however, what we have today is, in Kloos’ words, ”…a little out of the norm”. It doesn’t mean he’s hitting the synths, laying some beats or swirling about with a Kate Bush attitude – not that that isn’t cool. With his solo debut single, ‘Psilocybin’, the US-based musician adds a splash of indie-folk and backing vocals to his intriguing few minutes of music.
‘Psilocybin Elephant’s formation heads back three years to the Sedona desert where Kloos was enjoying the silence of the setting – tent, guitar, and a bag of mushrooms was all he needed. Alright, he did have his iPhone X, and the passion he felt led to him recording a rough voice demo that would become ‘Psilocybin Elephant’. Kloos explains: “What felt honest about the song was the moment, not making this a song for the radio. I used the voice memo from my phone and produced the track around it.”
Self-recorded and produced, ‘Psilocybin Elephant’ is a heady, cinematic concoction of strings, guitar and percussion. A song that ebbs and flows, the track has this way of holding a simultaneous wistful emptiness and weighty rush of sound. Aaron Fabbrini’s slide guitar pulsates and vibrates, while Pablo Dominguez’s percussion wraps around it – a flute adding a sweet slip of folk into the track. Yet, for me, it is Artem Litovchenko’s cello that dominates, adding a sense of haunting and etherealness, as well as a wash of confidence and comfort. As the melody rises and falls, Kloos’ rich vocals dance across the soundscape; his voice walking through the mist.
While ‘Psilocybin Elephant’ is a stand-alone release, it is also part of the soundtrack for indie-documentary Dante: The Man Running 500 Miles – which can be found here. As such, the song’s soft psychedelic nature is ideal for a relaxing moment and perfect for the film with its cinematic composition. Highly recommended!
