Lauren Moon – Running Low (2026)
Having professional musicians as parents, Lauren Moon was surrounded by music as a child, and it sparked those embers of musical passion in her soul. At a young age, she developed a “natural instinct for melody and storytelling”, learning to play the piano, guitar, ukulele and harmonica. Drawing on a plethora of styles and influences, Moon began crafting melodies of intimacy, experience and vulnerable sincerity. The latest addition to her discography is the single, ‘Running Low’.
The first release in six years, at least according to Spotify, ‘Running Low’ follows the 2020 single, ‘Edge Of The Moon’. Recorded and produced by George Chung and Tony Draper, the track retains that shiver of darkness heard in ‘Edge Of The Moon’; however, it also sees a pivot for Moon to something heavier. Standing solidly in the rock genre, listening to ‘Running Low’ is like being tossed into a sonic whirlpool with fairies soaring across the darkness, giving you a cheeky wink and big smiles.
Melodically, ‘Running Low’ is a rhythmic tune. David Shaw’s drums anchor the track with bold beats, while Peter Perrett Jr’s bass keeps a steady pace. Moon’s silky piano and percussion add a soulful, soothing and haunting chill. However, it is Alex Hillman’s lead guitar that adds the true rock passion with heavy riffs and a soaring sensation.
At first, I compared Moon’s dulcet voice to Ellie Goulding, but as the track progressed, the likeness disappeared. With a distinct sound that is truly Lauren Moon, ‘Running Low’ brims with sensual vocals – think of satin sheets running over your skin, and you might have an idea of the hushed intrigue. This is my introduction to Lauren Moon, but given that I really enjoyed ‘Running Low’, I am eager to hear more from this singer-songwriter.
