Jessica Brett – Hotter Than Hell (2025)
Emerging as one of the most exciting pop artists in the Irish music scene, singer-songwriter Jessica Brett uses old-school love stories and contemporary melodies to win hearts. Should you take a fancy to Taylor Swift or Olivia Rodrigo, then chances are you’ll enjoy Jessica Brett as she delves into the complexities of romance, while retaining a hopeful naivety from the outset. We were introduced to Brett a couple of months ago with her pop-infused single ‘Rom-Com’, so join us as we jump headfirst into her most recent release, ‘Hotter Than Hell’.
Following the critically acclaimed singles ‘Rom-Com’ and ‘Love’s A Lie’, ‘Hotter Than Hell’ binds the best of RnB and pop in an elegant wave of music. I’m not saying Jessica Brett’s music gives you those warm fuzzies of happy smiles and massive grins, but there is something comforting about Brett’s singles, despite the complexity behind the lyrics and sounds.
Produced with Alex O’Keeffe, ‘Hotter Than Hell’ bursts with bold beats, shimmering synths, and Brett’s rich vocals guiding listeners through the melodic bubble. Interestingly, just as the music throbs like a heart pulsating beneath your breast, there is a gentle soothing entwined, sort of like a smile playing on your lips with a delicate sheen. Urgency and confidence twirling with vulnerability and youthful innocence, ‘Hotter Than Hell’s melody oscillates between jovial thrills and dangerous fancy.
As with her previous work, ‘Hotter Than Hell’ is a rollercoaster ride bound in a pop wrapper; however, it is her powerful vocals executing poetic lyricism that insert conviction, as well as sensitivity into the track. Brett explains:
“With playful lyrics that represent both angelic charm and devilish temptation, ‘Hotter Than Hell’ tells a story about a love that feels both divine and dangerously addictive… it blends smooth, sultry vocals with a confident edge, capturing the thrill of falling in love.”
