Jonivan Jones – Take My Heart (To Its Grave) (2026)

From Delta blues to traditional folk, psychedelic twists, and Western rock and roll, all sung around a campfire with a gritty twang, Jonivan Jones is a singer-songwriter transporting ghosts that hitchhike through the music in a moving, stirring sound. The US-based musician started his musical journey at 14, learning to create and patch music together songs on an old hand-me-down guitar, encouraged by friends and family to keep the fire burning. Skip ahead some years, and Jones stands with a guitar in one hand and a song in his heart.

Following his EP Ghostwriter, Jones released his blues-heavy single, ‘Take My Heart (To Its Grave)’. Produced by Jonivan Jones, with mastering by James Plotkin, the single has an odd way of dragging you down with the weight of the world captured in its heavy, almost grimy melody. Simplistic and barebones, Jones’ guitar meets Mike West’s upright/double bass with a dull, pounding beat. It’s steady and plodding, but strangely, the gruff vocals aren’t necessarily devastating, rather hiding an intimate clarity and acceptance.

Melodically, the tune is vibrant without being too delightful or colourful; a dark, broody emotion captured in a suffocating string of sound. Given the insightful lyricism and message, this sauntering through dark dread and shining solace is perfect. Jones explains:

“At some points when writing and creating songs, you have to express the heaviness in a way that reflects its gravity in life. You have to embrace it and let it have its moment so that it can pass and make room for other things. That’s very much going on at the core of this song… the bone-tired and exhausted surrender after pulling out all the stops for an idea or a belief or even an institution.”

In addition to the single, Jonivan Jones released an official music video for ‘Take My Heart (To Its Grave)’. You can view the video below and/or on his YouTube channel.
