Fayen – Lines (2026)
Taken from Fayen’s LP Something to look back on, ‘Lines’ is a wonderful blend of warm melodies and intimate vocals. While the LP as a whole combines traditional bluegrass instrumentation with strong vocals, this track adds an edge to the more Americana roots. It is a wonderful introduction to the duo’s distinctive take on the genre while offering further evidence of their style to loyal listeners.
Anne-Grethe Nyhaug and Gøran Bogstrand are the duo behind the music. While Nyhaug performs in many genres, it’s Americana, country and folk that have really shaped her sound. This blends perfectly with the wide range Bogstrand brings, having played guitar with bands from post-rock to West African traditional. Together they are creating music that calls for you to keep an eye, and ear, out for what comes next.
‘Lines’ opens with a slow sweep that shimmers like light glinting off gentle waves of water. This atmospheric tone is a like an early morning breath that sighs in the background of the melody. The organic instrumentation brings an earthy feeling to the music that grounds the folk touches of the song. This plays perfectly with the vocals, which are a warm brush against your skin that leads you further in. There is an almost push-pull to the interplay between the vocals and the instrumentation as they lead you down a path into the forest of sound that is the track.
The harmonisation of the vocals in the chorus adds a further warmth to the single. You can sink back into the lush undergrowth that forms through the harmonies. The guitar that grounded the folk vibes of the music is met by the sweet higher tones of strings swirling together like autumn leaves dancing on a gentle breeze. The overall warmth of the single meets the lyrics that have a deep and reflective message to them. Everything about the song puts you in the right frame of mind to really dive into what the duo is saying to you and to think about the message of the track.
‘Lines’ is more than a blending of genres by artists who truly understand their musicality. The music is warm and gentle as it leads you into a forest of sound that closes around in the most delightful way. The interplay of each instrument and the vocals invites you to sink into the sound, putting you in the perfect position to really soak up what the lyrics have to say.
