Le Junk – The Internet (2025)
A few years, 2020 to be precise, London multi-instrumentalist Le Junk explained in an interview with The Other Side Reviews that his name “…suggests ‘fancy rubbish’ and a reminder that it’s easy to be fooled by what’s on the surface, but you’ll always find some shite beneath.” – and each of his songs illustrates the shite beneath with ferocity and recklessness. In 2020, we spoke about the single, ‘Level 3’, but since then, Le Junk has earned an even larger global following, winning audiences with confident performances and powerful music. The latest addition to his discography is the single, ‘The Internet’.
Following his single ‘English Garden’, ‘The Internet’ assaults listeners with his distinctive tongue-in-cheek, sardonic brand of electronic rock. Made for both fans of alternative rock with punk elements, the track might fall into the realm of electronica, but it saunters through various styles, adding a unique flavour. Bold beats pulsate beneath a synth-driven fuzziness, with a gritty techno flair, bound by a golden ribbon of electro-crash. For me, the rushes of rock-tinged tones insert a heavier, hard-hitting bash glean, while the rollercoaster wave of skin-tingling synths pinch the melody with piercing.
As much as ‘The Internet’ is chaotic, frenzied, and a little out of control, the lyricism is profound and weighty – yet, it is also a slice of chaotic frenzy. Touching on the issues of misinformation and disinformation, or just telling lies about stuff online to make yourself seem the absolute ideal, Le Junk explains:
“The song is partly inspired by the spread of false information online and how easy it is to fabricate a seemingly perfect version of yourself. It’s also about my own somewhat unhealthy addiction to social media.”
In addition to the single, Le Junk released an official music video for ‘The Internet’. You can view the video below and/or on his YouTube channel. Please note that this video uses effects that can trigger migraines and seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy. Viewer discretion is advised.
